HOW TO ENTER: Made by MAC: Creative Challenge 2012 (the “Contest”) begins at 12:00:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on 24 February, 2012 and ends at 11:59:59 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (“EDT”) on 4 March, 2012 (the “Promotion Period”). To enter, email titles.marketing@gmail.com with:
- Your name
- Project name
- A link to your entry
- 200px x 200px thumbnail for our gallery (.jpg, .gif or .png)
- You must use your official @mcmaster.ca email address
Entrants must also select one of the six following categories that best describes their Creative. Multiple category entries for the same Creative will not be allowed.
Digital Art: This may include digitally enhanced images, digital illustration, etc.
Rich Media: Video works, animation, interactive works or games, etc.
Audio: Original music, podcasts, etc.
Web Design: Static or interactive websites in html , Flash or any other scripting language, etc.
Creative Writing: Short stories, Blog entries, poetry, etc.
Other: Anything other creative digital work that does not fall under the the above categories.
Entries including more than one piece of creative will be disqualified. You may enter the contest under one name and one email address only.
One entry per person. All entries become the exclusive property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entries and Creative pieces must be submitted via email (titles.marketing@mcmaster.ca) by 11:59:59 am EDT on 4 March, 2012 at: http://www.madebymac.com. No other method of entry will be accepted or acknowledged. Entries must include all the required information or they will not be eligible. Sponsor and its agents are not responsible for any lost, late, misdirected, or incomplete entries or for any inaccurate transcription of entry information, or any failures and/or delays in on-line transmissions, malfunction or failure of any Internet connection, malfunction or failure of software or hardware, or any other errors or delays in the transmission or receipt of entries, whether human or technical in nature. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt by Sponsor.
CREATIVE REQUIREMENTS: The Creative must be developed by the person submitting the Creative. CREATIVE MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY IDENTIFIABLE THIRD PARTY TRADEMARKS OR ANY COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL WITHOUT PERMISSION. Semi-Finalists will be required to sign a Declaration to that effect prior to winning a prize.
SELECTING THE FIVE SEMI-FINALISTS: All eligible entries submitted will have the Creative along with their Full Name posted online at http://www.madebymac.com. The public may visit the web site and vote for the entrant who they feel best displays creativity and originality. All Creative submitted will be moderated and those deemed to be of an indecent or offensive nature as solely determined by the moderators will not be posted or eligible for the voting phase of the contest.
THE VOTING PERIOD: Voting begins at 12:00:01 am EDT on 24 February, 2012 and ends at 11:59:59 a.m. EDT, on 4 March, 2012. Limit one vote per computer account. If more than one vote is received per category from the same person or computer account, all votes from said person or computer account will be disregarded. Sponsor reserves the right to void all votes made through any script, macro, robotic, automatic, mechanical, programmed or similar duplication method including, but not limited to, contest-entry services. Any attempt by any person to fraudulently circumvent the voting restrictions in order to cast multiple votes will result in disqualification of all such votes received and may result in disqualification of the entrants for whom the improper votes were received if Sponsor determines that that entrant was involved in any way in the perpetration of such fraud.
At the conclusion of the voting period, the top five entrants who received the most votes during the Voting Period will be named a potential Semi-Finalist Winner (subject to verification) and will be invited to participate in the Finalist Event. Only those Semi-Finalists who attend the Final Judging (held at McMaster University Student Centre on March 9 , 2012) will be eligible for the Finalist Prizes. Semi-Finalist must attend in person, a proxy will only be considered in place of the Semi-Finalist if the student demonstrates a prior academic or official McMaster University commitment. All proxies are at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. Upon receipt and verification of the Declaration, the five Semi-Finalists entries will be posted on http://www.madebymac.com.
JUDGING/SELECTION OF THE FINALIST PRIZE WINNERS: Each of the five Semi-Finalists will be challenged to compete for the Finalist Prizes. Each Semi-Finalist must submit a copy of Creative on CD/DVD or Flash Media for participation in the final judging. The Finalist Prizes are only open to the five Semi-Finalists selected. Each Semi-Finalist will be asked to present their previously submitted Creative at McMaster University Student Centre on 9 March, 2012 at 12:00:00pm. The Finalist Prizes Creative submissions will judged on the following criteria: (a) creativity (70%) and (b) technical execution (30%). In the event of a tie, the winner with the highest score of Creative creativity will be the winner. See a full overview of the judging guidelines.
An independent panel of judges, as determined by MACMICRO, whose decisions are final and binding on all matters relating to this Contest, will judge the eligible Semi-Finalists entries to determine the Finalist Prizes winners.
ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS: The Contest is open only to McMaster Students who are legal residents of Canada, (excluding Quebec) and are currently registered as a student of McMaster university as of 1 January, 2012. All Semi-Finalists will be required to show a current and valid McMaster University Student Card in order to claim their prize. The Contest is not open to full time employees of Sponsor or McMaster University and the Contest judges and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, distributors, agents, advertising and promotion agencies involved with this Contest and each of their immediate family members (biological, step or in-law) including parent, grandparent, child, sibling or spouse of any of the foregoing (regardless of where they live) or households of any of the above, (whether related or not) are NOT eligible to enter or win. Void in Quebec and outside Canada and where prohibited by law. The entrant is the individual whose name appears on the entry form.
FINALIST PRIZES: One (1) Grand Prize will be awarded to the Semi-Finalist entrant that scored the highest from all the eligible Semi-Finalist entries received. The Grand Prize will be a gift certificate for a 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro(MC374LL/A) . The gift certificate must be redeemed by 03/30/12. The approximate retail value of the Finalist Prizes is $1,149 CDN.
One (1) First (1st) Runner Up Prize will consist of a Wacom Intuos4 Medium Pen Tablet. The approximate retail value is $349.00 CDN.
One(1) Second (2nd) Runner Up Prize will consist of a 2GB Livescribe Smartpen with accessories. The approximate retail value is $129.00 CDN.
Two (2) Participation Prizes will be awarded consistent consistent of a $50 gift card for Titles Bookstore and a hooded sweatshirt. The approximate retail value is $100.00 CDN.
RANDOM PRIZE DRAWS: Twenty-five (25) Random Prizes will be awarded.
The total value of all prizes to be awarded in this contest is approximately: $2500.00 CDN.
All prize values are approximate and are based on suggested retail prices. Dealers may sell for less.
Prizes are not transferable. No substitutions or cash redemption allowed. Limit one Finalist prize per person, household or email address.
DETAILS: The Semi-Finalists will be notified by email and will be required to sign, and return an unmodified Declaration of Eligibility, Publication and Liability Release and a Publicity Release within two (2) days of issuance. If notification is returned as undeliverable, or if potential winner fails to return all of the required documentation in the time specified, the next highest scoring entry based on votes received will be selected provided sufficient time exists to participate in the Finalist challenge. Odds of winning depend upon the total number of eligible entries received.
Semi-Finalist shall not receive any compensation or credit for use of entries, other than that disclosed in these rules. All prizes will be awarded provided sufficient entries are received. Sponsor will make arrangement for delivery of Semi-Finalist prize within three days, after the Declaration has been received and verified from the winner.
Each entrant represents that the Creative submitted is the entrant’s original creation, has never been published, has not previously been entered into any other contest or won any other contest or award, does not infringe third party rights, (including those of any photographer, writer, musician, animator or video producer), and is suitable for publication. Each entrant further represents and warrants that the right to submit and use said Creative is not restricted. Entries must be in keeping with Sponsor’s image and cannot be offensive, as determined by the Contest moderators/judges in their sole discretion, and cannot defame or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s or third party’s personal or proprietary rights. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and unfettered discretion, to disqualify at any time during the contest any Entries not complying with all rules. No correspondence regarding entries will be entered into with entrants, except as provided herein. By submitting an entry into this Contest, entrant unconditionally grants to Sponsor a world-wide, royalty free, sub-licensable, perpetual, license to use the Creative for any purpose whatsoever. Sponsor shall have the right to use, publish, alter, assign, edit, license or dispose of such entries however it sees fit without approval of, or compensation to, entrants. Entrants may be required to sign a release to that effect at any time in order to be eligible for further consideration in the Contest. By entering, entrant agrees that they have no right to bring (and covenant not to bring) any claim, action, or proceeding of any kind or nature whatsoever against Sponsor, McMaster University, affiliated companies, subsidiaries, divisions, advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective agents, employees, directors, officers, shareholders, successors and assigns in connection with this Contest. By entering and/or accepting prizes, entrants agree to be bound by the official rules and the judge’s decisions and to release the Sponsor from any and all liability, loss or damage of any kind arising out of or in connection with their participation in this Contest or with the respect to awarding, receipt, possession, use and or misuse of any prize or participation in any prize-related activities. As a condition of awarding a prize, the winners will be required to grant Sponsor the right to use the winner’s name, their respective images and likenesses, voices and biographical materials, as well as entrants’ submission for advertising, publicity and promotion purposes without territorial, time or use limitations, including without limitation online announcements, without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to modify, cancel, terminate, or suspend all or any part of this Contest at any time for any reason without prior notice. In such case, Sponsor may, in its absolute discretion, determine the winners in accordance with the Finalist Prizes judging criteria as listed in these rules from among all valid, non-suspect entries received prior to the event which warranted such action. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who (i) tampers with, or attempts to tamper with, the entry or voting process; or (ii) violates any of these Contest Rules.
INTERNET: Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor and/or their agents are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participation in this Contest or downloading any materials in this Contest.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON (S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
PRIVACY / PERSONAL INFORMATION: By entering this Contest, each entrant consents to the collection, use, and disclosure, by Sponsor, of his or her name, contact information (including, but not limited to, telephone number, address, and e-mail address), and biographical information for (i) the administration of this Contest including, but not limited to, the announcement of winners and awarding and delivery of prizes; and (ii) unless otherwise indicated by the entrant, for market and consumer research purposes.
